The biggest blessing

I remember what I was told – life is a river that won’t ask for your permission to flow. So don’t look back, don’t look forward, stay in this moment and refuse to move

but let the river have its way with you.

Cold stone gives me a glance from the shore, but doesn’t greet or smile. The rippling water and I, we continue passing by, and we flow by people I used to call lovers.

If ice could turn to stone, this would be my last ride – the water nymphs and I, we would be resting on the riverbed, playfuly sharing stories of how we have nothing more to say. All that feeling, all in vain.

But ice did not turn to stone, and some bold new ties are in the making.

Waves listen as I, for the last time, sigh, and release the pains of the past. The future doesn’t seem clear, but I have no need to believe all will be as I expect it.

That might be the biggest blessing.
