I look into a cauldron,
boiling water waits and paints
what she sees
as my present face
She calls me to jump in,
to get swept away,
so she can burn off my skin
What saves me
is the threatening sound of fire crackling beneath
It stops me,
and in the midst of all this heat,
I freeze
Cold rivers flow through my veins,
I am not in pain,
but I remember how it feels
To be betrayed
