We have been taught to rebel,
to show attitude and force,
even though the chains will never be taken off.
We spoke wisdom that was to be heard,
and even if we didn’t move,
it was a life well lived.
Now they have fallen off –
the chains of the past,
and these new warriors have no right
to waste force in anger and rage.
Someone else has turned the page,
and in this new chapter,
we have yet to become heroes.
We have yet to walk up to a mirror,
and see the blank slate that we are.
We have yet to see that we haven’t made an impact,
that we left what surrounds us intact,
and that it’s time to shake things up
